The New Orleans Metro Area
The New Orleans area is made up of New Orleans itself (Orleans Parish)
and the surrounding communities, including Metairie, Kenner, Gretna,
Chalmette, Harvey, Marrero, and LaPlace.
The cities of the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain (St. Tammany Parish)
are also considered part of the New Orleans area. Many people
employed in New Orleans choose to live in Slidell, Covington, and
Mandeville. The Lake
Pontchartrain Causeway, connecting Mandeville with New Orleans, is
one of the longest bridges in the world.
The New Orleans area is served by Interstates 10, 12, 55, and 59.
